Last updated 6/3/2010 at Noon

LifeShare Blood Centers will open a donation site in Orange to accommodate donors in the Orange County area. The site was donated by and is at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 1315 West Park Ave., with hours of operation Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m-2 p.m.

The grand opening will be Monday, June 7, and will include a ribbon-cutting at noon with the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, a gumbo/bake sale will take place that day from noon-6 p.m. to offset the costs incurred for renovations of the new site. Bowls of chicken or seafood gumbo will be cost $5. Gumbo tickets are on sale now.

The opening of the Orange Donation Site comes at a time when seasonal blood shortages occur due to decreased blood donations. Summertime is typically a time of year that people give blood less frequently, as school is out and many people are vacationing. The Orange donation site will make it more convenient for Orange and surrounding area donors to make blood, platelet and plasma donations closer to their home and/or workplace.

For more information, or for gumbo tickets, call 838-5289.
