Library hosts summer reading program
The Orange Public Library registration has begun for the 2010 Summer Reading Program, “Catch the Reading Express,” Wednesdays, June 9 through July 21. The library is offering a Read-to-Me program for children going into kindergarten and younger and a Texas Reading Club for those children going into the first through sixth grade.
The Read-to Me Program is a 30 minute story time from 10:45-11:15 a.m. held in the Children’s Room. Stories will be read by a variety of guest readers. A reading log will be given to record the amount of time spent listening to stories. “Library Bucks” are given to each child who attends the program and to those who tern in the reading logs on July 21.
The Texas Reading Club is held in the library meeting room from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and is for children going into first through sixth grade. This program features a variety of show, crafts and reading incentives. Children participating in the Texas Reading Club also receive “Library Bucks” for participation and turning in their reading logs on July 21.
Parents are asked to stay in the library while the children attend the programs.
This year’s Texas Reading Club programs include: June 9 – Julian Franklin’s “Catch the Reading Express”; June 16 – “Mad Science: Spin Top and Boom”; June 23 – The Stark Museum of Art; June 30 – Moody Garden’s Traveling Rainforest Trunk; July 7 – Shangri La: All About Owls; July 14 – Fun with Tae Kwon Do; July 21 – Library Store and Carnival.
Also, there is a young adult program 6-7:30 p.m., on Tuesdays, June 8 through July 27, for students going into the seventh through 11th grades.
The library would like to thank the Malloy Foundation, the Friends of the Library, Sonic, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Papa John’s, Dominoes, Walmart and Houston Astros for sponsoring our program and reading incentive prizes.
