In continuing budget talks by Bridge City officials, both Mayor Kirk Roccaforte and City Manager Jerry Jones said the adopted city property tax rate may be lower than 2009’s .48700 per 100.

“The proposed budget will have a tax rate of .47775/100 – a lower rate than we had last year,” Jones said.

He added there will likely be no increases in water and sewer rates.

“All fees will remain the same as people of Bridge City continue to recover [from Hurricane Ike],” he said. “We worked very hard to present a balanced budget with sales tax revenues down.”

Roccaforte added there will likely be a 3-percent across the board raise for all city employees.

“There will probably be some adjustments to some positions to keep in line with other cities,” he said. “We’re also looking at adding another employee in the police department. We’re not sure at this point if it will be a police officer or not.”

Proposed rates/salaries are not official until approved by city council.
