James Millard Whitehead, 28, of West Orange, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Military honors and interment will follow in Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in the McLewis Community. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born April 24, 1982 in Baytown to Vernon Ray Whitehead Sr. and Diana Lynn (Franken) Whitehead, he was a longtime resident of Orange. He graduated from Bridge City High School in 2000 and worked as an oilfield laborer. James was a veteran of the Marine Corps where he served time in Iraq. He was respected as a hero for his service by his peers and had recently told friends that he held a desire to go back to serve his country again. James was known as the hardest, softest, teddy bear that a person could ever know – his daughter was his heart and his son was his pride.

James is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Myrtle Whitehead; maternal grandfather, James Edward Franken Sr.; aunt, Darlene Franken; uncle, Dewey Dale Whitehead; and his brother-in-law, Clayton Boyett.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his mother, Diana Whitehead of West Orange; father, Vernon Ray Whitehead Sr. of Baytown; his soul mate, Karlan Jorgensen of West Orange; daughter, HeavenLeigh Lynn Whitehead of Lumberton; son, Randin Lee Jorgenson of West Orange; maternal grandmother, Jerry Bonnin of Orange; sisters, Brandy Boyett of Orange, Valerie Allen of Bridge City and Barbara Jean Whitehead of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Vernon Ray Whitehead Jr. and wife, Katy of Lumberton; niece, Destiny Boyett; nephews, Kyle Boyett and Trey Whitehead; and numerous extended family as well as a host of friends and fellow members of the Marine Corps.
