James L. Lawrence Sr., 73, of Orange passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at Hermann Medical Center in Houston. A graveside service was held Sunday, Aug. 15 at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange, under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home.

He was a native and life long resident of Orange; born on May 18, 1937 to parents Butler and Rose (Hock) Lawrence. He retired from the City of Orange in 1988 from the Park and Recreation Department. James enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to work in the yard; landscaping, his garden of flowers and trees. He had a green thumb. James could spend hours listening to his wife play the accordion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sibling, Gloria Norwood, Ray, Lottie, John Ray and Eugene Lawrence.

James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Louise (Capps) Lawrence; son, James Lee Lawrence Jr. and wife, Candace of Orange; daughters, Rose Marie Dubois and husband, Kenneth, Sally Lou Brown, Inez LaChance and husband, Ronnie, all of Orange; seven grandchildren; six and one on the way great-grandchildren; sisters, Bessie Norwood, Dorothy Wallace, Susie Dorman and Shirlene McPherson, all of Orange; numerous nieces and nephews.
