The Community Builders Award was presented to West Orange Mayor Roy McDonald at a recent city council meeting.

Authorized by the Grand Lodge of Texas, the award was presented by Terrell “W.T.” Burch on behalf of Madison Lodge #126 – Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. The award recognizes a person for his outstanding contributions to the community. Burch said, “He is the most deserving of this award. He has definitely not hidden his light underneath a bushel.”  He was described as a man of integrity, a Christian, family man and public servant.

McDonald’s wife, Laverne has always been a positive support to him. The citizens of West Orange and surrounding communities have benefited from his untiring commitment to service. “He has led the City of West Orange for more years that I can remember.” said Burch.

Many area Freemasons from the Orange chapter attended the ceremony.

The council meeting continued after the presentation. Agenda issues included retirement health benefits covering City of West Orange employees. Said employees would have to be in a supervising position for ten or more years and also have twenty years of service with the city.

Officials also tackled the renewal actions for employee health, vision, dental, accidental death and dismemberment and life insurance coverage currently administered by TML Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool.
