Fannie Block Hurst
Fannie Block Hurst, 101, of Orange died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Pinehurst Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Chaplain Jeff Bell of Southeast Texas Hospice in Orange. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Orange on Sept. 14, 1908, Fannie was the daughter of Walter T.S. Block and Mary Lorado Morris. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Orange and retired as a sales clerk for Green’s Department Store and Williams Pharmacy in Orange.
Fannie was known as “Mammie” to all her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and visiting with her family and friends and enjoyed gardening. Fannie especially enjoyed the cards and letters sent to her over the years. During Fannie’s 101 years, she did vote Republican once. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Hurst; daughter, Melba Hall; sons, Marvin “Sonny” Hurst and Deral Hurst; daughter-in-law, Betty Hurst; son-in-law, James Reeh; granddaughters, Sandra Hall and Debbie Hurst; great-grandsons, Michael Reeh and James Reeh; two sisters; and two brothers.
Fannie is survived by her daughter, Beverly Reeh of Orange; son-in-law, L.T. Sonny Hall of Orange; great niece, Aileen Faulk and her husband, Larry of Mauriceville; and nephew, Granvel Block of Orange.
She is also survived by two other great-nieces and great-nephews; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Reeh, Gary Reeh, Dale Forse, Mike Hurst, Kevin Hurst, Keith McCurry, Cory Faulk and James Prince.
