Lake Charles
Robert Scott Hankins, 48, of Lake Charles died at 11:26 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 in a Lake Charles hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles. The Rev. Karl Klaus and the Rev. Roger Templeton will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. The family will be at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. on Monday. Visitation on Tuesday will be from 8 a.m. until 1p.m. A private visitation for the family will be from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral services.

Mr. Hankins was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles where he was a 1979 graduate of Barbe High School. He graduated from McNeese State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications. Following his education, he first served as a city editor for the Orange Leader before serving as the editor of the Orange County News; part of the Beaumont Enterprise. Hankins transferred to the Enterprise main office when the Orange County News was discontinued. He most recently worked for The Record Newspapers in Orange as a reporter.   Hankins belonged to the Press Club of Southeast Texas and was a recipient of countless awards for his outstanding writing ability.

He had previously attended University United Methodist Church and currently attended St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church.

Robert is survived by his wife, Martha Hankins and his father, Dr. B.E. Hankins both of Lake Charles. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Lynn Fuson Hankins in 2001.
