Clifford Monroe “C.M.” Marshall Jr., 83, of Orange, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Baptist Orange Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5 at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Branch and the Rev. J. B. Prouse of Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Born in Forest Hill, La. on Sept. 14, 1926, C.M. was the son of Katie Katherine (Willis) and Clifford Monroe Marshall. He served in the U.S. Army and in the Philippines for two years. C.M. retired from DuPont in 1985 after 34 years of service. He was a volunteer with Orange Literary GOALS program, Orange Christian Services, and Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

C.M. is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jean M. Marshall; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Fletcher Cockrell of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; stepdaughter, Sarah Peddy of Orange; grandchildren, Lane Dickey and husband, Chaplin Chris Dickey, Brian Colby, Robin Schaffer, and William B. Peddy Jr.; great-grandchildren, Joel Dickey, Hanna Dickey, Blake Colby, Trevor and Lindsey Schaffer; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Mildred Marshall.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association or Wesley United Methodist Church.
