BC women honored as “always a Cardinal”
Irene Navarro and Norma Vann Barnett have been honored by the Bridge City school district. The ladies were named 2010 Distinguished Alumni during homecoming ceremonies.
Irene Navarro is a member of the first graduating class of Bridge City High School. The class of 1957 had the great honor of choosing the school colors, mascot and school song. Irene was very active at Bridge City HS- she was the first coronation queen as well as the first recipient of the Cecil and Ann Bryant athletic scholarship.
She is married to Pete Navarro and is mother to George Navarro and Cynthia Ray who were also BCHS graduates. She is also proud to say that all of her grandchildren attended BCHS as well. Through the years, she has been a very active supporter of all of their school activities. Having spent over 30 years in childcare, she has touched the lives of many children in the Orange and Bridge City area.
She says that she treasures the many memories she has of Bridge City High School and feels very honored to be chosen as one of the Distinguished Alumnus for 2010.
Norma Vann Barnett is a member of the 1959 graduating class of Bridge City High School. She is the mother of Bobbie Barnett Weldon, who was a 1987 graduate of BCHS, and is married to Donovan Weldon.
She is the ‘Mammy’ to three grandchildren: Aimee, Jessica, and Donovan Weldon III. With grandchildren in Orangefield ISD, she has been an active supporter of OHS and BCHS throughout the years. Norma has been a nurse for over 30 years and is very proud to be chosen as a Distinguished Alumnus for 2010.
In honor of these ladies, Bridge City High School principal, Mr. Richard Briggs and the Student Body President, Shane Stankus presented them with a “Once a Cardinal Always a Cardinal” T-Shirt and a Plaque on behalf of Bridge City High School.
