The CheerHawaii USA Invitational Summer Invitational is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the cheerleaders who are selected to participate. The nomination and selection process is highly detailed. At the beginning of each school year the participants work with thousands of high school varsity cheer coaches from all 50 states, with only 70 girls chosen nationwide
Autumn McIntyre reports, “As they worked to build unity with new team members from all around the States, the participants learned new cheers, chants, dances, stunts, leadership skills, and preparation for college cheer. Bria Thibodaux was chosen as the leader from her “Flower Lei” team. Being chosen as the team leader is a great honor at Cheer Hawaii USA.”
The cheerleaders were also able to tour Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Culture Center, a Luau, and beaches including Waikiki, North Shore, and Kailua Beach. Bridge City is very proud of these cheerleaders who represented our Community and State with great pride and dignity in Honolulu, Hawaii.
According to information obtained from the CheerHawaii program, at the beginning of each school year thousands of high school varsity cheer coaches from all 50 states work in conjunction with this program. Each coach is asked to nominate his or her most deserving cheerleaders to be considered for selection to the camp.
Then, the selection committee seeks student/cheerleaders with the following qualities:Good basic cheer skills, Leadership abilities, Desire to learn and improve, Excellence in academics and Positive attitude.
After reviewing hundreds of nominations and conducting interviews with the coaches, the CheerHawaii selection committee extends an invitation to those that fit this profile.
Nominations for the 2010 camp were open to cheerleading squad members that were current sophomores and juniors. Current seniors wwere only considered on a limited basis and coach’s recommendation.
