IH-10 stop produces one drug arrest
On Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Unit stopped a 2006 Mercedes Benz for two separate traffic violations committed while traveling on Interstate 10 eastbound in Orange County, Texas.
As the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the roadway, the white male operator, later identified as Christopher Johnson, a 37 year old male of Lake Wales, Florida resident exited the vehicle and attempted to elude on foot, carrying a dark colored duffle bag.
After a short foot chase, Johnson was apprehended approximately 50 feet south of the roadway. During a search incidental to arrest for eluding, officers located approximately 9 pounds of cocaine hydrochloride concealed within the duffle bag.
With that discovery, Johnson and his passenger, Katina Boswell, a 38 year old female of Lake Wales, Florida resident were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, a first degree felony. After arrest, officers spoke with agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration who responded to the sheriff’s office and adopted the case for federal prosecution.
Christopher Johnson was taken into custody by the DEA and will be transported to the Federal Holding Facility in Beaumont pending arraignment by a Federal Magistrate.
The passenger, Katina Boswell was released pending further investigation.
