Bridge City High to host college and career night

Light in the night at First Presbyterian
The members of The First Presbyterian Church of Orange invite the community to join them for fun at the Light in the Night festival held in the Gillespie Building on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Games for all ages will take place in the family center, along with a tractor-pulled hayride around the neighborhood. A gift-filled bag will be given to the children along with favors and treats from the games. Hot dogs and chili will be offered free of charge.
Concluding the festival will be Trunk or Treat held in the church parking lot, located behind the church on Elm Avenue. Church members dressed in costumes will have their car trunks and motorcycles decorated for the season. Children are invited to collect goodies from the candy-filled trunks.
The Gillespie Building is located on the corner of Green Avenue and Ninth Street with the entrance off of Ninth. Levingston Shipbuilding Reunion 2010
Former employees of Levingston Shipbuilding in Orange are invited to a reunion to be held Saturday, Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will be held at the LaQuinta Inns and Suites located at 2220 Hwy 62 South in Orange.
Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish that does not need to be heated or refrigerated. Drinks will be provided.

Lutcher Stark Bengal Guards to meet Oct. 15
The Lutcher Stark Bengal Guards, years from 1935 – 1944 will have their monthly meeting on Friday, Oct. 15th at 11 a.m. It will be at J.B.’s Bar-B-Cue. All members are urged to attend.
Orange County Retired Seniors to meet Oct. 11
The Orange County Retired Senior Citizens will have their monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Salvation Army building on MLK and Strickland. If you plan to stay for the noon meal, bring a covered dish. We are still collecting soap for the Orange Christian Services. All seniors are welcome to attend. Call 409-883-6161 for more information.
WO-S High School Ticket Sales
Due to the District 21-3A rules, there will not be any advance ticket sales for the away Varsity Football game vs. Hamshire-Fannett on Friday, Oct. 8th. All tickets have to be purchased the night of the game at their gates. Ticket prices are Adults-$4 and Students-$2. Directions:

St. Mark Lutheran Chili Lunch
The wonderful cool weather has hit our chef. St. Mark Lutheran Church will serve our wonderful chili lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The cost is only $6 per meal and includes the chili with the fixings with a tasty Halloween Dessert. All deliveries will be made between 10:30 a.m. and noon to area persons and businesses. “In Loving Memory” Support Group to meet
The monthly meeting of “In Loving Memory”, a support group for mother’s who have lost a child, will be on Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the North Orange Baptist Church located at 4775 16th Street, Orange. Mothers of any age who have lost a child for any reason are welcome.

Farmers Market continues
Shoppers will likely find at the Farmers Market this weekend cucumbers, squash, zucchini, purple hull peas (already shelled, blanched and frozen), bell peppers, hot peppers, frozen blueberry juice, frozen muscadines, pickles and a variety of other canned vegetables, salsa, hot sauce, many flavors of jams and jellies, deer jerky, local honey, fresh eggs, baked goods and dog cookies (subject to garden and weather conditions).
The Market is open every Saturday in front of Big Lots on MacArthur Drive from 6:30 a.m. until the produce is gone, usually around 9 a.m.
OC Dems to meet
Orange County Democratic Party will meet Oct.12 6 p.m. at Commissioners Court. The Chair would like to remind everyone that this the last meeting before the General Election Nov. 2.
Workforce Solutions Seminar set for Nov. 4
Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas in Orange will be holding an Employer Seminar on Thursday, Nov. 4th from 9 to 11a.m. at their office regarding “Hiring and Firing in 2010 – ‘Cuz Management 101 is Not Enough!!” They will also be discussing the highlights of the new Dowtown Master Plan and Business development initiatives in the Orange Area.

Project Graduation “Split the pot” upcoming
Congratulations to Mr. Tweedel, the lucky “Split the Pot” winner who walked away from last week’s football game with over $200. Thanks to all who played and supported Project Graduation last week.
We will be having “Split the Pot” at all home varsity games. Find us by the flag pole selling “Split the Pot” tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5. We will announce the winning number at the end of half time. The winner gets half of the money we collect and Project Graduation gets the other half. We appreciate your support and you could be the next winner. Good luck!
Orange County 4-H Clubs schedule events
The Orange County 4-H Clubs are having their annual Pecan Fundraiser if anyone would like to order some of these wonderful pecans and show support for the 4-H clubs in Orange County, please call 409-882-7010. The Thanksgiving order deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 12 and the Christmas order deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Orange County 4-H members are preparing for the 4-H Food Show which will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011. To prepare for the show, 4-Her’s are given an opportunity to attend a food work shop which help them learn the my pyramid, new cooking techniques, kitchen safety and fun yummy recipes. So join us on Saturday, Oct. 16, Saturday, Nov. 6, Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Rusty Rooster Café where Chef Jason Williams is going to teach us how to whip up some food. All 4-H activities are open to kids that are eight years old and in the 3rd grade to 19 years of age. The Orange County Livestock Show Association and the Orange County 4-H are hosting a Dog Show Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Mauriceville Fairgrounds. This is the communities opportunity to show off their furry friends in the costume, talent & ugliest contest along with photography contest. These contests are open to all youth ages 5-18 years old and adults 19 or older. The entry fee is $5.00 for kids and $10.00 for adults. Entry fee for Photography is $5.00. 4-H is a non-profit organization that provides free hands on educational programs for the youth of our community. Funds from the sale go towards the entire 4-H program, including the purchase of equipment and maintenance, program materials, awards, promotional supplies, scholarships and so much more.
Paraprofessional training offered
Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD will offer a training program entitled, “Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals,” on Oct. 12, 19, 26, and Nov. 2.

BCHS Project Grad needs volunteers
Project Graduation is underway but the parents of the senior class at Bridge City High School are greatly needed. Project Graduation is a wonderful way to keep kids safe the night of Graduation as well as them having a great time with all their classmates.
Meetings are held on the second Monday each month at 7 p.m. in the Bridge City High School Library. The senior parents are encourage to come to the meetings and help make the senior’s night even better.

Angel Food orders Wednesday
McDonald Memorial Baptist Church of Orange invites the public to place food orders from Angel Food Ministries on Wednesday. The times are 3 to 6 p.m. in the church office. Distribution date is Saturday, Oct. 30. A variety of food is available beginning at around $22. Cash or LoneStar card is accepted.

BC Chamber to host Jackpot Night
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Jackpot Night on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at the Bridge City Community Center.
There will be Bingo, Roulette, Slot Machines, Blackjack and poker tables available for you to spend your “Jackpot” bucks at. Table sponsorships are still available.

OHS teams to hold 5k/1k Fun Run
The Orangefield Cross Country and Track teams are hosting the 2010 Orangefield 5k/1k Fun Run on Saturday, Oct 16. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the 5k run/walk begins at 8:15 a.m. and the 1k run/walk begins at 9:15 a.m. The registration fee for the 5k run/walk is $10 and $5 for the 1k run/walk.
All proceeds to to the Cross Country and Track teams for uniforms and equipment.
Sponsors, donations, prizes and participants are greatly needed.
Applications for Holiday Vendor Fair
Orangefield High School Project Graduation is accepting applications for their Holiday Vendor Fair to be held at Lamar State College – Orange Student Center on Nov. 13. Retail vendors are allowed as well as hand made crafts.

LCHS Alumni Reunion 1953-1970 set
The Little Cypress High School Alumni Reunion will take place Saturday from 2 p.m. until 12 midnight.
A receptionwill be held from 2-6 p.m. for visiting with old friends. Light appetizers and cold drinks will be served.
Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and catered by Zydeco of Beaumont.
After dinner, there will be more visiting and dancing. Also, classes/teachers will be recognized and several presentations made. Each class will have dedicated tables. Get your reservations early to reserve your seat. There will be a memory wall dedicated for each class. Please contact Claudine Hogan, if you would like to have something on this wall.

Heavenly Hearts Charity pageants set
The Texas Star and Christmas Star Double Header Charity Pageant will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Texas Opry House in Magnolia.
Entries are being accepted now and will continue until Sunday, Oct. 10. Age divisions are from babies all the way to adult. The event is open to all areas and to both boys and girls. Awards are crowns, trophies, plaques, sashes, gifts, and much more. No one will leave empty handed and all young contestants receive a tiara just for taking part in this event.
All proceeds will be given to Texas Children’s Hospital. Gifts will be purchased for the parents to give the children on Christmas morning.
Entry fee into this event is $100 and it will cover entry into both the Christmas Star and Texas Star. Raffle tickets for a $50 gift card to Target can be sold to pay the entry fee, or you may get a sponsor if you want to enter at no cost to you.

Fall Festival planned by United Methodist
The United Methodist Women will have their annual Fall Festival Thursday, October 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the church’s Praise Center at 5th and Pine in Orange.
The Fall Festival will be bursting with great deals with the Silent Auction, the Plant Sale, the Bake Sale offering the freshest of home-baked goods and the highlight of the festival is ETC, the “Better than Garage Sales” sale of a wide-variety of quality items. Admission to the Fall Festival is free.
A luncheon will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. offering a menu of hot chicken salad, oriental coleslaw, fresh fruit, and dessert.
Tickets are $10 and take-outs are available. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the church office (they usually sell out so purchase your tickets early).
Proceeds from the Festival will be used to support non-profit organizations assisting low income individuals in the Orange community. All donations are tax deductible.

Discipleship classes offered
The First Baptist Church of Orange, 602 Green Avenue, has begun the fall schedule of discipleship classes for adults, youth, and children. On Wednesday evenings, beginning at 6:30 p.m., a variety of classes are being offered at the church.
Before the discipleship classes begin, an evening meal, requiring reservations, will be served from 5:15.-6 p.m. Cost is $4 per adult, $2 per child, or $15 per family. Susan Childers is the church’s chef.
From 6-6:30 p.m., Pastor Barry Bradley leads a Bible study and prayer time. Also beginning at 6:30 p.m., worship minister John Bickham leads adult choir rehearsal.

Fall Bazaar with free admission announced
The MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) group will sponsor a fall bazaar to be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bridge City.
This even will have links, drinks, baked goods and local vendors from home based businesses. Many items will be offered for sale such as handmade bags, jewelry, holiday yard decor, wreaths, embroidery, hairbows and much more.
