The playoff picture came into sharper focus Friday night with key wins

for Orange County football teams. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears

defeated the Vidor, 28-21, the Bridge City Cardinals defeated Silsbee 26-22, and the West Orange-Stark Mustangs won their homecoming 40-14 over Orangefield.

The Battlin’s Bears have blazed new trails this season under second year Head Coach Randy Crouch. LC-M is now 6-1 and one step closer to the playoffs after defeating Dist 20-4A rival the Vidor Pirates.

Two teams claim the king of the hill in Dist. 21-3A. Next week there will be just one. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs and the Bridge City Cardinals will collide next week.

The Cardinals knocked off the defending district champion Silsbee Tigers in one of the best football games this season. Bridge City went into half-time trailing 19-12. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the third quarter coming up with key turnovers and big defensive plays. Cardinal linebacker Adrian Shubarth interecepted a Tiger pass on a key fourth quarter drive that sealed the fate of the Tigers. In the final 37 seconds Silsbee launched an exciting would-be comeback attempt but the Tigers ran out of downs and time.

Junior quarterback Matt Menard passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns- two to receiver Cameron Dishon and one to Mitchel Hubbard. Bridge City running back Hunter Clark put the finishing touches on the evening with a third quarter 4-yard run.

The West Orange-Stark Mustangs celebrated homecoming by defeating the Orangefield Bobcats.
Even though Reggie Garrett Jr. passed away after a touchdown pass on

Sept. 17, he was still name the Mustangs 2010 Homecoming King. It was a tribute accepted by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reggie Garrett, Sr.
