Dave Shaw benefit scheduled
A benefit for Dave Shaw, lead singer with Eazy, the band, will be held
11 a.m. on Oct. 23 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Port Acres
located at 6621 W. Port Arthur Road.
Shaw, a 1967 Port Neches-Groves graduate and Marine Corp veteran is a
heart transplant candidate at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Included will be a large raffle, door prizes, silent and live auctions.
A Chicken Dump Game with 400 numbered squares will be $10 a square. The
winner gets $1,000.
Fish and gumbo dinners will be $7 each for pre-sold dinner tickets.

The Women’s Ministry of FBC of Orange to host confernce
The Women’s Ministry of First Baptist Church of Orange is hosting a one day conference for all women of this area on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The conference will feature noted speaker and artist Cindy Burden. The theme of the conference is “HGTV” which stands for Heart change, Getting a makeover, Taking shape, and Victory in your new look.
The cost is $20 and includes lunch. Worship will be led by Nikki Hanson, from Calvary Baptist in Beaumont and Trina Bickham, from First Baptist in Orange. Reservations are requested by Monday, Nov. 1.

Port Arthur Mayor’s Fitness Walk begins Oct. 23
The Mayor’s Fitness Walk, a five-week series of one- and two-mile fun walks, kicks off Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the center; the walks begin at 8 a.m. and include the Sea Wall. T-shirts will be available for the first 100 people at the Carl Parker Center on Oct. 23.
Experts from Christus St. Mary and The Medical Center will be on hand to help walkers set fitness goals. Those who reach their personal goal will be eligible for prizes to be awarded Nov. 20.
Local health providers and a number of Port Arthur-area businesses are helping to sponsor the event.
CCS to host Holiday Extravaganza 2010
The Community Christian School will host a Holiday Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be booths from local merchants, a dunking booth, games, a silent auction, crafts, plate lunches gifts and more. Booth space is still available.
Admission for adults is $1 and is free for children.

WOS vs. BC pre-sale game tickets
Just a reminder that the Away WOS vs. Bridge City Varsity Football game is on Saturday, October 23rd at 6:00pm. There are no presale tickets for this game. All tickets have to be purchased at their gate the evening of the game. Ticket prices ar $4 for Adults and $2 for students.
BC FBC to host special Thanksgiving service
Fellowship Baptist Church of Bridge City would like to invite the community to help celebrate the holidays starting with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Nov. 21. Lunch will follow the morning service at 10:30 a.m. Then on Sunday, Dec. 5, the church will ring in the Christmas season with The Ratleys from Huoma, La., singing for the morning service at 10:30a.m. and then at 6:30 p.m. FourTold Quartet from Sulfur, La., will be in concert. A Taste of Christmas will follow the evening concert with all kinds of holiday goodies.

McDonald Memorial Baptist to host Halloween Festival
McDonald Memorial Baptist Church will host a community Halloween festival on Sunday, Oct. 31. The times are 2 to 4 p.m. in the Burton gym building. Preschoolers and children in grades one through six are welcome. There will be a moonwalk, games, and prizes. The church is located in Orange on South St., near the Lion’s Den Park. LSC-PA continues scholarship fund fee
Lamar State College-Port Arthur students recently elected three new Student Government Association senators and voted to continue a $1 per semester hour student fee that goes into the college’s Centennial Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Ninety-six percent of students voting in the election opted to continue the endowed scholarship fee, which the student body first approved in 2002.
The new senators are Christina Nguyen, an academic studies major from Port Arthur; Dinh Vo, a studio art major from Port Arthur; Carla Santos, an academic studies major from Port Arthur; and Benjamin Hill, a software development major from Port Acres.
SGA is the official voice through which students can participate in overall policy and policy-making at the college.
SGA’s leadership includes three officers, four elected senators and two appointed senators. Each officially-recognized student organization also sends a voting representative to SGA meetings.

A Veterans’ Day service will be held 10:30 a.m., Sun. Nov. 14 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 1401 W. Park in Orange. The Rev. Dr. Joyce Wilkinson will officiate.
