Thieves arrested in church theft
On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, Orange County Sheriff’s Officers spotted a Chevrolet pickup pulling from the parking lot of Old First Orange Baptist Church, located at 7925 Old Highway 90, Orange.
While the truck was stopped at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 62, deputies saw an industrial sized air conditioning unit in the back of the vehicle.
When deputies stopped the vehicle, one of three occupants jumped from the vehicle and fled, but was captured a short time later.
Deputies found that the three occupants of the vehicle had removed and dismantled a large industrial air conditioning unit, valued at approximately $5,000.00, from the church.
The suspects, Shawn Gunter, Tracey Walls and Gary Smith, all Orange residents, were taken into custody and transported to the the Orange County Correctional Facility for Felony Theft.
Bond has not been set pending arraignment. The Orange County Sherriff’s Office says anybody with information about area thefts should contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 883-2612.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was assisted by Precinct 2 Constable Rob Strause. The investigation is being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Division.
