Get ready Texas here come the West Orange-Stark Mustangs.

The Mustangs

state playoffs at Lamar University in Beaumont. The memory of Reggie

Garrett, Jr. lives on as the team he captained carries on the legacy.

If you are not already a fan you might consider

becoming one soon. They are the real deal in Texas high school football and if there is any weak links in the Chain Gang the Mustangs make up for it in pure desire. Their rebound from tragedy to triumph to reclaim the Dist. 21-3A Championship is extraordinary. Liberty appeared relieved the game came to an end regardless of the score.

The Mustangs will take on Brookshire Royal at Woodforest Stadium in Shenandoah on Friday in the Region III area round. Brookshire Royal defeated Giddings 20-13. Brookshire Royal features University of Oklahoma-bound

running back Brandon Williams and quarterback Tevin Long who passed for 249 yards and also ran 27 yards for a

It took West Orange-Stark a quarter of football to get cranked up but once running back Darius Mitchell crossed the goal line with 9:41 left in the second quarter the Mustangs ignited. After Bryce Crew spit the crossbars it was 7-0 and the begining of a long night for Liberty.

Sophomore quarterback Jimmy Salter was superb. On the next possession Salter hit senior wide receiver Mark Roberts for a 63-yard touchdown pass. Crews kick was good with 7:51 on the clock.

Nine seconds later defensive back Justin Thomas picked off a Liberty pass and scampered to the endzone. Crew’s PAT hit the cross bar. The Mustangs led 20-0.

On their next possession running back Britton Lyndsey dashed 21 yards for a touchdown and Thomas punched in the 2 point conversion and it was 28-0 with 4:11 left in the first half.

The young quarterback Salter has stepped in to fill the big shoes of Reggie Garrett, Jr. and he wears them well. With 1:10 left on the clock Salter hit Darius Mitchell on a 21-yard pass to the five yard line. Mitchell took the handoff on the next play to score. After the PAT the Mustangs went into intermission with 35-0 lead.

On their first play from scrimmage Salter struck again hitting DeCarlos Renfro for a 61 yard touchdown pass and a 42-0 lead just 10:43 into the third quarter.

Mustang running back Darius Robinson scored from the three yard line with 6:29 left in the third period. After Crew’s PAT the Mustangs led 49-0. On their next possession Renfro blazed 62 yards for another Mustang TD with 3:44 left in the quarter and a 56-0 lead over Liberty.

WOS head coach Dan Hooks sent in sophomore Tremaine Anderson for some playing time at quarterback. With 11:18 left in the game Anderson scored a Mustang TD. Crew’s kick made it 63-0 and most of the Mustang starters enjoyed the rest of the game from the sideline.

It looked like it was going to be a fourth straight shutout for WOS when Liberty’s Jorge Rodriquez snagged a fumble and carried it 30 yards for the Panther’s only touchdown. The kick was good and Liberty got out of the contest with something to show for the evening.

The bi-district playoff round came to a conclusion: Mustangs 63, Panthers 7.
