Burglary in Pinehurst, shots fired
On Saturday, Dec. 11 at 4:52 a.m., the Pinehurst Police Department received a report of gunshots in the 3500 block of Pheasant Street.
Officers Kavin Blakeney and Brian Foley responded to the scene. An investigation revealed that the homeowner, upon being awakened by his dogs, looked outside and observed someone breaking into his vehicle. He exited the residence armed with a .12 gauge shotgun and observed a white male still inside of his vehicle attempting to remove property. As the suspect exited the vehicle, the homeowner fired the weapon, striking the suspect in the buttocks area. The suspect escaped on foot, entered a parked vehicle on Raven Street and fled from the area.
Shortly after, a 23 year-old white male, matching the description of the suspect, was transported to Memorial Herman Baptist-Orange Hospital by private vehicle claiming he had been shot and robbed on Simmons Drive in Orange.
A subsequent investigation led to his admission that he had in fact been shot on Pheasant Street as he was burglarizing the complainant’s vehicle. The suspect, whose identity will not be released at this time, was transported by ambulance to a Lake Charles hospital for treatment of a severe gunshot wound to the buttocks. His condition is unknown.
The West Orange and Orange Police Departments also assisted in the investigation.
