Toups to headline Hall of Fame Show
Wayne Toups and ZydeCajun will headline the 24th annual Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame Show, formally the Janis Joplin Birthday Bash, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center located at 3401 Cultural Center Drive, off Hwy. 73 in Port Arthur.
Special guest stars appearing for an all-star tribute to the world famous music of the Golden Triangle and the Gulf Coast area will be Wayne Toups and ZydeCajun. Wayne Toups was born in Crowley, La. He first picked up an accordion at the age of 13, and quickly began winning local contests. Since then, he has released 13 albums. Wayne Toups is also an inductee this year. A Janis Joplin tribute will be performed by Myrna Sanders and The Kozmic Pearl Band. Also, Larry Grisham from The Beat Daddys and the Long Neck Road Band will be performing.
Advance general admission tickets are $22 and available at the following locations through the afternoon of Jan. 22: The Civic Center box office in Port Arthur, A&S Music in Nederland, Swicegood Music in Beaumont and The Record Newspaper offices in Bridge City and Orange.
General admission tickets will be available the day of the show at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers (Port Arthur) Civic Center for $24. The box office opens at 6 p.m. Children 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, will be admitted free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and show time is at 7 p.m.
The event raises funds for the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame exhibit at the Museum of the Gulf Coast which showcases memorabilia of area artists including Janis Joplin, Johnny and Edgar Winter, The Clique, Ivory Joe Hunter, Barbara Lynn, Johnny Preston (“Running Bear”), Jivin’ Gene (“Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”), The “Big Bopper” J.P. Richardson (“Chantilly Lace”), Phil Phillips (“Sea of Love”), Issac Payton Sweat (King of the Cotton Eyed Joe), Cookie and the Cupcakes (“Matilda” and “Got You on my Mind”), Tex Ritter, George Jones, Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Bird, Harry James, ZZ Top, Frankie Ford, Dale and Grace, Percy Sledge, B.J. Thomas, Wayne Toups, Lonnie Brooks “Guitar Jr.,” The Fabulous Boogie Kings, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown and Jo El Sonnier, Clarence “Frog Man” Henry and Joe Barry, plus numerous other Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana performers.

The Ramada Inn, located at 3801 Hwy. 73 in Port Arthur, is the headquarter hotel with hotel packages including lodging and tickets. Hotel rooms are available, either one or two bed, for $69 per night. Tickets are available at the hotel for $22 cash, payable on check-in. Inform the hotel upon booking reservations of the number of tickets needed and they will be waiting upon arrival.
