It was a packed house in the Orangefield High School library on Thursday as Bobcat senior athlete Quinton Evans penned his name on a letter of intent to play baseball for Blinn College next season.

Evans, an outstanding competitor in nearly every sport at Orangefield sat with his mother Paula Evans as Coach Jeff Bennett and Quinton’s father, Greg Evans, looked on as he signed.

Camera’s flashed and three local television stations were there to cover the event. The entire Orangefield Bobcat baseball team and a crowd of school administrators, teachers and supporters joined Evans as he made the commitment.

The future Blinn Buccaneer was named to The Record’s 2010 All-Orange County Baseball Team as first team short stop last season. Evans was also named as a Most Valuable Player on The Record’s 2010 All-Orange County Football Team.

He becomes the third Orangefield baseball player in three years to move up to the next level. Catcher Jacob Felts signed to play baseball with the University of Texas and Jace Statum, a pitcher and center fielder, signed with Texas A&M.
