The West Orange – Stark High School Journalism team won first place team honors at the Port Neches – Groves UIL Academic Practice Meet this weekend.

The first place honor was earned through accruing more points in journalism events than all other competing schools, 1A through 5A.

Three Mustangs placed in the Feature Writing competition. Casey Chapman took first place honors. Teammates Kylie Hughes and Karli Flurry also placed, second and fifth, respectively.

In News Writing competition, Alex Jenkins placed second and Kylie Hughes placed fourth.

In Editorial Writing, Alayna Jacobs placed second and Kylie Hughes placed fifth.

Jacobs and Chapman also placed in the Headline Writing event. Jacobs placed fourth and Chapman placed eighth.

The Mustang journalism team also won first place honors at Hamshire-Fannett and Nederland UIL Academic Practice meets.
