The Orangefield Lady Bobcats (25-8) defeated the Sealy Lady Tigers 36-26 Friday night in the area round of the Class 3A Region III playoffs at Goose Creek Memorial High School in Baytown.

The Lady Bobcats ended the first quarter with a 10-8 lead. All 10 Lady Bobcat points were provided by Marisa Wyatt.

The Lady Bobcats increased their lead to 23-16 in the second period as Ashton Wagner scored four points, Rebecca Higginbotham scored two points and Morgan Moss scored three points from the free throw line and hit the net for another two. Cassidy Hayes added to the lead with another two points for Orangefield.

The Lady Bobcats defense continued to keep the Lady Tigers at bay in the third quarter increasing their lead to 30-20. Wyatt hit for a three-pointer, Higginbotham put another four points on the board.

Orangefield polished off Sealy in the final period with free throws. Wagner was good for one point, Kacy Juneau earned three more points from the free throw line and Hayes sank one. Sealy managed to score only six points in the fourth period against the stingy Lady Bobcat defense that snuffed the Lady Tigers throughout the contest for the 36-26 victory.

Wyatt had a game high 13 points, Wagner scored 6 points with 5 rebounds, Higginbotham scored 6 points, Moss posted 5 points and Hayes had three points with 7 rebounds. Juneau was 3 for 6 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bobcats now move on to face Smithville next Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Region III playoffs. This makes the fourth playoff appearance by Lady Bobcat Head Coach Chris Jost in as many seasons with Orangefield.

To get there the Lady Bobcats dismantled Huffman 75-35 in the bi-district round last Tuesday.
