Several local students gathered at the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation’s (TILF) University of Texas Scholarship Banquet on Feb. 21, at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin. This banquet was held to honor University of Texas students that have received scholarships from TILF, a service of the University Interscholastic League.

Kyler Geoffrey from Port Neches, Lisa Huynh from Bridge City, Zachary Roche from Lufkin, Nick Collins from Katy, and Teresa Johnson from Conroe are current recipients of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation scholarship through TILF and were honored at the banquet. This group is part of 11 students currently attending the University of Texas with the aid of the Stark Foundation Scholarships.

Tad McKee, VP and CFO of the Stark Foundation, was in attendance to honor the recipients. “It is a great honor to meet and talk with the students that receive these scholarships. I was very impressed with each of the students I had a chance to meet,” says McKee.

Since 1984, the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation has contributed over $4.5 million dollars to the scholarship program, with preference given to applicants from Orange, Sabine, Newton and Hardin counties. Currently, the Stark Foundation contributes $228,000 annually to TILF, which supports approximately 60 students from local counties attending college.
