The Bear Iron Powerlifting Team competed at their final meet of the regular season last weekend at Beaumont’s West Brook. The meet served as a “Last Qualifier’s Meet” with those competing for a final chance to increase their personal best total and qualify for the Region IV Powerlifting Meet.

“We have a tremendous group of kids this year, led by a strong group of seniors; but we also have a boy and girl from each grade level representing our school at the regional meet,” said Coach Reed. “With 6 boys and 4 girls lifting, we are hoping we can make some noise at the regional meet and get a few kids out to state.”

The Bears who competed brought home eight medals; with Kelly Kaufman finishing fifth and Coleton Boudreaux finishing in second place. Those finishing atop their individual weight classes were Raven Cole, Travis White, Nick Dockens, Mitchell Jennings, and Cameron Allen. Three members of the team, Nick Dockens, Cameron Allen, and Raven Cole, also brought home Outstanding Lifter awards. The boys’ team out-lifted the competition in route to winning their third meet of the season.

“We have some of the top lifters in the state, let alone the area, and all the credit goes to them,” Reed said. “They have done a great job thus far and we can’t wait to see what the next couple of weeks have in store.”

The Lady Bears will be in action, lifting at their regional meet Thursday, March 10 in Palacios, Texas, with the boys to follow at Alief – Taylor High School on Saturday, March 12, as they work to earn the chance to compete at the State meet.
