About 1:45 Monday morning, while on patrol for the Orange police Department, Officer James Roy saw a man walking in the middle of the road in the area of Cypress and 2nd Streets. Officer Roy observed that the man was unsteady on his feet and stumbling as he walked.

The man identified himself to officers as Desmond Raynard Burnett. The officer could see that Burnett’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and that he had slurred speech as he spoke.

Officer Roy said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Burnett’s breath or person, as well as having a blank look on his face, as if he was not aware of his surroundings or what was currently occurring.

At this time, officers believed Burnett to be intoxicated and took him into custody fearing he could be a danger to himself or others.

Burnett was transported to the Orange County Jail where he was booked on public intoxication charges.
