The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce named Sam Placette as the March Bridge City Student of the Month. Placette is the son of Daniel and Laurel Placette. He is ranked second in his class of 177 students with a grade point average of 4.83 on a 5.0 scale.

Placette currently serves as the band president and academic team captain. He is also a member of the UIL criticism team that placed 2nd in State. Honors were also received in 2010 for Outstanding Student in Spanish II and President’s Education Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.

Placette is a member of the BCHS Tennis Team, Academic Decathlon and National Honor Society.

His English Teacher Diane Grooters says, “While maintaining the highest grades, he also competes in five UIL academic events and the academic team – and he consistently wins in all fields.”

Sam Placette plans to further his education after high school by attending Lamar University to study engineering. Placette received the Mirabeau Scholarship, which is the highest scholarship that Lamar University awards. It pays for everything needed to complete four years of college.

Faye Parish, secondary math coordinator at Bridge City, says “Sam works very hard and pays meticulous attention to detail; which will make him an excellent (engineer).”
