James N. Barrows, 85, of Vidor died Monday, March 21, at Harbor Hospice House, in Beaumont. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Temple, on March 30, 1925, and joined theUnited States Navy in 1942, where he served his country duringWWII. James was a retired supervisor with Arco Palmer Petroleum Plant. He retired in 1982, at the age of 56 years old. He was a member of the American Legion, post #7, in Port Arthur.

James was preceded in death by his two sons, which were his golfing buddies, Robert and Dawson Barrows; his parents; a brother; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Barrows of Vidor; step-son, David R. Taylor and wife, Karen of Fairdale, TX.; step-daughter, Carolyn Thomas and husband, Cliff of Houston; two grandchildren, Christi Barrows and Troy Barrows; four step-grandsons, David W. Taylor and wife, Laurie, Wade Taylor, Danny Sachitano, and Christopher Swain and wife, Sheila; and seven great grandchildren.
