Lee Vertis West, 89, of Orange passed away on Sunday, March 27, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Dorman Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 1, at 2:00 PM at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Trout Creek Cemetery in Newton County.

He was a native of Call, Texas; born on Sept. 15, 1921 to parents Bennett West and Rena (Wingate) West. He served his country as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp during WWII in The Asiatic Pacific Area; Hawaiian Islands, Ellice Islands and Marianas Islands. He had lived in the Orange area since 1956 and he enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens. He was a believer in Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

He was a kind man who would help anyone who needed his help; after Ike he helped cut down trees, hauling them off behind his lawn mower and assisting his neighbors to rebuild Orange. Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed dearly.

His parents and seven of his siblings preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Seraphine “Fena” West of Orange; daughter, Mary Ann West of Orange; son, Dr. Preston Lee West of Houston; sisters, Velma Willett of Kirbyville, Ava Arlan of Buna; brothers, C.D. West and wife Janice of Rusk, Joe West of Arkansas;

grandchildren, Lance Catrell, Trenton Landwehr, Shannon Landwehr, Kyle West, Haley West, and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
