West Orange – Stark High School students competed at the University Interscholastic League Academic District Meet and placed in numerous events this weekend.

Journalism students Kylie Hughes and Casey Chapman won first place honors in News Writing and Headline Writing, respectively.

Also placing in the top three of their individual events were Morgan Neal and Miranda Miller. Neal placed second in Poetry. Miller placed third in Headline Writing.

By placing first, second, or third, students automatically advance to the UIL Regional academic meet.

Also placing at the District meet were:

Alex Jenkins, 6th, News Writing; Karli Flurry, 5th, Feature Writing; Alayna Jacobs, 5th, Editorial Writing; Kayla Block, 6th, Prose; and Sheldon Lee, 6th, Current Issues and Events.

The West Orange – Stark High School One Act Play also competed at the District event on March 31 with “Children of a Lesser God,” and advanced to the Area Round of competition. They will compete Saturday at 3 p.m. Angelina College in Lufkin.

Danielle Drouillard and Nathan Wood made All-Star cast.

Kayla Block and Immanuel Simien were named Honorable Mention All-Star cast.
