Joe Liggio, an orchid expert, will lead a walk in the Hickory Creek unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve to look or the beautiful and unusual wild orchid. Liggio is a photographer, writer and biologist who serves on the board of the Big Thicket Association.

The walk, which will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 7, will require no reservations. Those wishing to participate should meet at the Sundew trailhead, located on CR 1910, just south of FM 2827.

The walk will last at least two hours and may include some off trail hiking. Participants should bring water, insect repellent, and good walking shoes. You are also encouraged to bring a camera.

“Wild Orchids of Texas”, a book about orchids, written by Liggio and his wife Ann Orto, is available for purchase at the Big Thicket National Preserve visitor center.
