Monday evening, Pinehurst police was dispatched to the 1400 block of Strickland Dr., in reference to a theft. While en route to the Kwik Stop, Officer Leonard Roff observed a large crowd of people on the sidewalk in front of the Smart stop, located at 811 Strickland.

At the location of Smart Stop, Roff saw a black male holding a white male at gunpoint. The white male matched the description of the theft suspect. The suspect, Edward Joseph Ted Deblanc, was detained by Officer Roff.

An investigation revealed that Deblanc had stolen merchandise from the Kwik Stop and fled the scene. He allegedly displayed a knife after a customer ordered him to stop. The customer, who is a concealed handgun license holder, followed Deblanc and held him at gunpoint until officers could arrive.

Deblanc was taken into custody, charged with felony theft, and  transported to the Orange County Jail.
