The Greater Orange Area Literacy Service in Orange will be having their 13th Annual Adult Spelling Bee fundraiser on Friday, April 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lamar Orange Student Center. Tickets are a $12 donation which includes a box lunch.
Kevin Stelle, anchor on channel 12 news, will be the master of ceremonies.

Teams of three spellers each are sponsored by clubs, organizations, and local school districts. Each team sponsor pays a $250 entry fee. So far the following teams will take on the challenge: Lamar State Orange, Lions Club and United Methodist Women. Team winners from the past are: WOCCISD, Kiwanis and Rotary.

Team members will receive a book to study and “Bee rules.” Words that are used come from the National Spelling Bee words.

GOALS was established in Orange 18 years ago and offers free tutoring for adults 16 years and older. Trained volunteer tutors help students in basic reading, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language.

GOALS is a non-profit, tax exempt organization. Donations to the Spelling Bee can be made in the following categories: ABC letters, $25 each; Queen Bee $500; Pollen Provider $400; Bumble Bee $200; Honey Comb $100. The audience at the “Bee” can also participate by spelling words on the Audience Spell sheet for $5.
