The Orange County chapter of the University of Texas (UT) at Austin Texas Exes is proud to announce their scholarship winners for 2011. Orange County Texas Exes has given over $66,000 in scholarships to local high school students over the last twenty years.

Tanner Crow is from LCM High School and ranks sixth in his class of 269. Tanner is the winner of the June and Jesse B. Gunstream Endowed Scholarship given to the student the selection committee feels will exemplify scholarship and leadership on the UT campus. He will major in Aerospace Engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering while attending UT. Tanner is the captain of the varsity soccer team and serves as 1st Lieutenant in the LCM band. He is a member of the varsity football team, NHS and a four year member of both the Jazz Band and Varsity Wind Ensemble.

Mackenzie Lowe is from LCM High School, ranking 13th in her class of 279. Mackenzie is the recipient of the Wynne Hunt Memorial Endowed Scholarship which is given to the student the selection committee feels will carry the Longhorn spirit well past their years on the UT campus. She will seek a degree in Chemistry. Mackenzie was selected to the all-area band and orchestra and is the flute section leader and librarian of the LCM marching band. She is a student council representative and a member of the National Honor Society.

Ashlyn Lopez is from Orangefield High School and ranks second in her senior class. Ashlyn is the winner of the Judge Pat Clark Endowed Scholarship for Community Service which is given to the student the selection committee feels most embodies Judge Clark’s legacy of serving others. She will major in Mathematics at UT this fall. Ashlyn is a National Merit Hispanic Scholar and the recipient of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. She is the captain of the varsity volleyball team and a member of the National Honor Society.

Destiny Arteaga is from LCM High School and ranks tenth in her class of 279. She plans to major in petroleum engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering while at UT. Destiny is the Texas Association of Student Councils District 17 president and recipient of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. She is student body president and a varsity cheerleader and track team member.
