Charles Wayne King, Master Sergeant, USAF, ret., 79 of Lakeland, died April 27, due to heart failure. Charles was born March 1, 1932 in Kaufman, Texas to Clarence and Clara King and moved to Lakeland in 1971 coming from Sherman.

Charles is a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force and served his county for over twenty-one years. Upon his retirement, Charles raised exotic birds and owned Kings Caged Birds for thirty-two years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Don King and a brother, Claude King.

Charles was united in marriage on April 15, 1951 to his wife, Audrey who resides in Lakeland. He is also survived by his son, Calvin King of Lakeland; his sisters, Florence Welch of Vidor, and Cordell Sanford of Little Elm, Texas; his grandchildren, Audrey, Angie, Nicole, Brittanie and Don King, Jr.; several great-grandchildren including Kayla and Ty King and several nieces and nephews in Texas.

Friends will be received Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Lakeland Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in Lakeland Memorial Gardens cemetery.
