Devil’s Pocket

Thomas E. “Pap” Williams, 73, of the Devil’s Pocket community of Newton County, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after an illness.

Born on May 24, 1937 in the Old Laurel community to his parents, Lee Charles Williams and Arbell (Van Pelt) Williams, he was a lifelong resident of Devil’s Pocket. He was a simple man who enjoyed farming, he was a member of the Pocket Full Gospel Church, and he worked as a truck driver for Burrell Trucking Company in Evadale and retired in 1998. Pap is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, A.V. Williams and Cecil Williams Sr. and his sister, Pauline Hooks.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his wife, Carol Williams of Devil’s Pocket; his daughters, Jan Williams of Devil’s Pocket, Sandra Welch and husband, Jesse of Deweyville and Jo Burke and husband, Johnny of Newton County; his sisters, Betty Jo Lavine of Hartburg, Deloris Harris of Devil’s Pocket and Sally Vance and husband, Thurlo of Hartburg; his brothers, Jesse “Buddy” Williams of Orange, Eddie “Poe” Williams and wife, Connie of Sudduth Bluff, Charles “Wig” Williams of Devil’s Pocket and Ben Williams and wife, Tina of Huffman; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous extended family.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange .
