BC Lady Cards ring Bellvile to capture area round

HUMBLE- The Bridge City Lady Cardinals came back to win Game Two, 10-2, and Game Three, 7-5, to knock the the Bellville Brahmanettes out of the playoffs and advance the Lady Cardinals to the Region III quarterfinal round next week.

On Saturday the Lady Cardinals flew on the wings of senior pitcher Emilee Reed. Reed commanded the mound pitching nine innings during the final two games in the best-of-three series at at Summer Creek High School in Humble. Reed was relieved on the hill by Jessica Franklin in the second inning of Game Three.

The Lady Cardinals will take on La Grange in another best-of-three at the Mo Campbell Education Center, 1865 Bender Road in Houston beginning Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m. Game Two will be played on Saturday, May 14, starting at 1 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes following Game Two.

The Lady Cardinals shook off the 3-2 loss to the Brahmettes in Game One on Friday. Bridge City raged back in Game Two with a convincing 10-2 victory scattering 16 hits that stunned Bellville.

The key Game Three became a nail-biter with the Brahmettes taking an early lead, 3-0, at the end of the second inning.

Lady Cardinal Brooklyn Hogden got the scoring rolling with a RBI single that closed the gap to 3-1 in the third. Jordan Royal followed with an RBI that cut the distance to 3-2. Ashleih Wilbur posted another RBI to tie it up. By the end of the third inning the Lady Cards were holding 4-3 come-from-behind lead.

In the fourth inning senior Sara McPerson singled and was scored by Hogden with her second RBI single. The Lady Cardinals finished the inning with a 5-3 lead.

Bellville managed to strike back scoring two runs to tie up the playoff bout 5-5 in the fifth inning. But he top of the Lady Cardinal batting lineup pushed Bridge City ahead 7-5 in the sixth inning.

Bellville couldn’t scratch out a score in the final frame leaving runners stranded on first and third base. Bridge City claimed the prized Region III area round championship and is advancing in the playoffs.

Congratulations to the Bridge City Lady Cardinals and head coach Miste Henderson and assistant coaches George Navarro and Gordon Fountain for an outstanding performance.
