Cora Aleene Doan Norris, 88, of Orange went to be with her Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 19, after a lengthy illness.

Aleene was native of Milvid, Texas; born on July 1, 1922 to Henry Doan and Ruby (Sutton) Doan. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Orange; where she was very active working with the Women’s Ministry, singing in the choir, using her sewing skill and preparing and serving food as needed.

She retired from Kroger’s after 32 years of employment in the bookkeeping department. She had lived in the Orange area for the past 50 years. She loved to bake cakes, pies, candy, cookies and always sharing them. She had made 100’s of quilt’s, which were hand stitched; giving these beautiful works of art away so they could be admired for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband after a long illness and her 24 hour care for many years, Lewis D. Norris and her grandson, James Norris II.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her grandsons, David Ray Norris and daughter, Carley, John Mikel “Pete” Norris and son, Lewis L. Norris. Daughter in law, Susan Burdine, sisters, Fay Lindsey and Jean Stacey and their families of Porter, TX. Son, Rev. Mike Norris and wife Mary, their daughter, Marla Oppenheimer husband Rick and children Jacob and Landon of Ohio, and son Mike Norris of Knoxville, Tennessee. Her son Jack Norris wife Rosemary, children Jerry, Lisa Wolf husband Dallas all of Las Vegas and close and devoted family friends the Burdine’s.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Dorman Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park.
