WOCCISD announces Teachers of the Year
West Orange – Cove CISD is proud to participate in the Texas Teacher of the Year Recognition Program.
The program begins at the local level where campuses select a teacher who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.
Campus honorees were recognized at the West Orange – Cove CISD Board of Trustee meeting recently. They are:
North Early Learning Center Teacher of the Year Dolly Gauthier, Head Start Teacher;
West Orange – Stark Elementary Teacher of the Year Athena Jefferson, Second Grade Teacher;
West Orange – Stark Middle School Teacher of the Year Clark Reed, Drama Teacher;
and West Orange – Stark High School Teacher of the Year Cornel Thompson, Alternative Education Program / Athletics.
Additionally, West Orange – Stark High School teacher Cornel Thompson was recognized as the West Orange – Cove Teacher of the Year. He will represent West Orange – Cove in the Region V Education Service Center Teacher of the Year competition.
Regional winners advance to the state contest. The Texas Teacher of the Year becomes a spokesperson for public education and is honored at a special ceremony in Austin conducted by the Texas Education Agency.
The Texas Teacher of the Year, a dedicated and highly skilled candidate who is capable of inspiring students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, becomes a candidate for National Teacher of the Year honors.
