Evelyn Day Jones of Greenville, NC passed away peacefully at the youthful age of 86 on Wednesday June 8. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday June 11, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 pm in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Evelyn was born in Angelina County Texas and grew up in Manning. Although her roots are still in the Lone Star State she followed her heart to North Carolina when she met the love of her life Andrew J. Jones. The two married on Feb. 7, 1945 and had three beautiful children. Evelyn had an immense passion for life and always saw the best in everyone.

There was never a day that went by that she didn’t speak of how beautiful fields of Texas Blue Bonnet’s were or how much she missed her family and friends across the miles, always yearning to return to her place of birth. Evelyn was an amazing and accomplished self-taught artist and successfully sold many commissioned and freelance pieces throughout North Carolina, a talent that was truly passed down from her mother and flows into her children and grandchildren alike.

Her beautiful blue eyes were but small windows into her brilliant and creative soul that allowed her to express her passion and love for all things family, friends and life.

While living her life in Greenville and raising her children she was also a hardworking Manager at The Silo Restaurant on Memorial Drive as well as Kings Department Store on Greenville Blvd and a dedicated volunteer at the Pitt County Board of Elections. Evelyn was also a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church. Her love of God was unbroken and she shared her beliefs with friends and instilled her family with the importance of faith and to always put family first, and that she did. With love, honor and respect, she truly was the matriarch of a beautiful family and for that we will cherish her always and keep her memory alive.
