Clifton E. “Buddy” Gunter Jr., 78 of Orange, Texas passed away on Monday June 13. He was born on Feb. 24, 1922 to Lorene Williams Gunter and Clifton E. Gunter. He had lived in the Orange area since 1966.

Those who live to cherish his memories are his wife, Susie Ann Groce Gunter; children, Virginia Fox and husband, Robert of Bridge City, Clifton E. Gunter III and wife, Debra of Mauriceville, William “Bill” Gunter and wife, Jean of Orange and Roy Wayne Gunter and wife, Debra of Pasadena; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and a host of many wonderful friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers and daughters, Elizabeth and Susan.

Being a paster, Clifton served as minister for Brownwood Baptist Church as well as interim pastor for churches in and around the Golden Triangle area. He was fervent in his service to his Lord, having helped lead countless to salvation in his lifetime. Clifton began his ministry as the chaplain for the Orange County jail.

He was a veteran of the Korean War era and was stationed in Alaska.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, at 1:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home at 305 Houston Street in Newton. Graveside services will follow at Sycamore Cemetery on Gunter Hill in Burkeville.
