Washing machines damaged in attempted burglary
Thursday morning at approximately 11:10, Officer Tim Pruitt, with the Orange Police Dept. was dispatched to the Smart Stop Washateria in the 800 block of Strickland Dr., in reference to a burglary.
The attendant, Cathy Carter, told police that she left the washateria Wednesday night at about 9:30.
Upon returning the next morning, she discovered three of the coin operated washing machines burglarized, but with no money missing. There was also a black plastic waste receptacle valued at $25 missing from inside the building.
Officer Pruitt observed three washing machines to be tampered with, The metal top plates to all three washing machines are normally kept locked. There was damage to all three machines from the suspect or suspects trying to force them open.
Carter advised that the store will press charges if the suspect is identified.
