Clarence H. (Buddy) Bell, Jr., 64, died after a two year struggle with cancer, on Oct. 9.

Born in Starksville, MS, son of Clarence H. and Sara Bell, he studied engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and became a mechanical engineer.

He worked in Texas, then in Louisiana, and in 1995 moved to Providence, Rhode Island, where he was employed by Supfina Machine Company. Clarence Bell was a life-long runner and avid chess player, enjoyed visiting New York City and its bookstores, and liked being outdoors and at the beach.

He is survived by his wife Elisabeth Ly Bell; his loyal support team Pi and Ella; and by his siblings, Barbara Filippidis of Austin, Mary Meeks of Longview, Joe Bell of Wichita Falls, Ruthie Reed and Beth Chandler of Bridge City, and John Bell of Renton, WA; and their families.
