Orangefield teen’s death accidental
On Nov. 3, at approximately 7:30 a.m. the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call concerning a deceased male at 395 East Woodfern Drive in Orange. ?
Upon arrival Deputies found Garrett Patin, a 16 year old sophomore at Orangefield High School, inside the residence with a single gunshot wound. EMS responded to the scene but was not able to revive the victim.
The Orange County Homicide Investigation Team was notified and responded to the scene. Upon investigation it was determined that the shooting was accidental.
The victim was inexperienced with firearms and was handling a firearm inside his residence when the firearm discharged striking the victim causing his death. The victim was the only person home at the time of the incident.
Orange County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Patin was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue where an autopsy was performed. Preliminary Autopsy reports show that the victim died as a result of a single gunshot wound. ??The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division conducted the investigation.
