Saturday evening, Pinehurst police made a traffic stop in the 2800 block of W. Park Ave.

The driver of the vehicle, Richard Jamal Netherly, Sr., of Pinehurst was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Netherly was found to be in possession of a large amount of what was believed to be cocaine, which is a first degree felony.

Netherly was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail, and is currently being held on a $300,000 bond. If convicted, Netherly faces the possibility of a prison term of five to 99 years.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search and arrest by providing a canine unit specifically trained in drug detection.

The street value of the substance is believed to be $20,000.
