Thursday morning, Jan. 19, Officers Sarah Jefferson and Major Wade Robinson went to the 100 block of Cypress St. in reference to drugs being sold. Upon arrival, the offers observed two males standing on the street.

Police approached the males and observed that one of the men kept his hands in his jacket pocket. The man was told several times to remove his hands from his pockets, but he refused to do so.

The man, who was identified as Sydney Green, was detained. As Officer Jefferson was taking Green into custody, she felt an object in his jacket pocket. When Green was questioned about what was in his pocket, he stated that he had just smoked marijuana. Green was questioned again about what was in his pocket, and he repeated he had just smoked marijuana, but would never say what was in his pocket.

When the man attempted to reach into his pocket again, police grabbed his wrist to keep him from reaching into his pocket.

Officer Jefferson reached into Green’s pocket and removed a plastic wrapper that contained a green leafy substance, which was believed to be marijuana.

Green was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, and was undergoing a routine search of his person. During this search, a pill bottle was found in the man’s other pocket. Inside the pill bottle, was a white powdery substance, which was also taken as evidence.

Green was then transported to the Orange County Jail, and charged with possession of marijuana, pending further investigation.
