David Adam Hommel, 31, of Woodville, passed away, Saturday, Jan. 21, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Woodville with burial in Campground Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Adam was born June 23, 1980 to David & Sherry Lynn King Hommel in Lake Charles, LA. He was a former resident of Mauriceville and had lived in Woodville for the past six years. Adam loved baseball, especially the Houston Astros, and keeping up with all of the various statistics related to sports.

He had great friendships with fellow employees at Market Basket in Mauriceville and Brookshire Brother’s in Woodville where he was currently employed. He participated in the Challenger League baseball program. He cared for and loved all of his brothers and sisters and took pride in being Santa for all the Hommel family’s Christmas gatherings.

He was preceded in death by both of his grandfathers, G.W. Hommel of Orange and Jon King of Mauriceville; and one of his grandmothers, Elizabeth Hommel of Orange.

He is survived by his parents, David & Sherry Hommel of Woodville; grandmother, Binnie King of Mauriceville; brothers, Ethan Hommel, Simon Hommel, Tariku Hommel and Joseph Hommel all of Woodville; sisters, Amanda Smith & husband, Kelly of Orange, Jessica Hommel, Emuye Hommel, Emebet Hommel and Birknesh Hommel all of Woodville; and nieces, Jordan Smith & Layla Smith both of Orange.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
