Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads, but they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.

“Courageous,” is a movie showing struggles many fathers face trying to raise children in a Godly way in today’s society. First Baptist Church of Bridge City is airing a free showing of the movie at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12 in the sanctuary. It is a kick-off for “Courageous Living,” a men’s Bible study class that begins the following week. The class is sponsored by Castnet Ministries, a division of First Baptist.

The movie is suitable for adults, teens and older children. At parents’ discretion, they may chose for younger children ages 4 years-fifth grade to watch “Courageous” or join other youngsters in the children’s church room for a viewing of “The Runner from Ravenshead.”

In “Courageous,” when tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a new found urgency help these dads draw closer to God … and to their children?

Filled with action-packed police drama, “Courageous” is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. Viewers will find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.

Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That’s courageous.

The movie is open to the public. Participants of the movie and the subsequent Bible study class do not have to be members of First Baptist Church.

The children’s movie will run 5-7p.m. and is offered in place of CSI. Parents are asked to bring a pillow and blanket. Pizza will be served to the kids.

“Courageous Living” is a dynamic four-week small group Bible study based on the bold fatherhood and family principles featured in the film Courageous. Members will discover how to lead their families more courageously in four key areas:
-Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for their family
-Priorities: focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary
-Legacy: recognizing a father’s potential impact as a godly role model
-Faith: strengthening a father’s identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom

The study will be held 5:30-7 pm, Sundays, beginning Feb. 19 led by Rick McClelland (409-719-6410) and Dewey Stuart (409-504-2277)

The church is located at 200 W. Roundbunch in Bridge City. For more information call McClelland, Stuart or the church at 409-735-3581.
