Martha Ann Gunter Abel, 83, went home to be with our Lord, on Feb. 11, in Downingtown, PA, after a five year battle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Port Arthur on July 7, 1928, Martha was the daughter of the late Alto Amos and Mary Lucy Greenwood Gunter.

She was preceded in death by her son, Landon Gunter McMaster, her husband of 42 years, William W. Abel, and her sister, Mary Margaret Gunter Domask.

Martha graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and attended Lamar College in Beaumont. She had a long career as a Claims Manager in the insurance industry, after which she retired and did extensive traveling in the U.S. with her husband. Martha also loved to dance, read, and garden.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Lucy Ann McMaster Kitchen (Richard) of Downingtown, PA; step-daughter and dear friend, Eugenia Daniel of Lafayette; step-son, Keith Abel (Kathleen) of Bridge City; grandchildren, Amanda Gannon (Daniel) of Avondale, PA, Melissa Kitchen of West Chester, PA, Jeffrey Kitchen (Holli) of Carrollton; and four great grandchildren, Jason, Sean, and Emily Gannon, and Adelyn Kitchen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will held at 2:00 p.m., followed by a service at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 East Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA.

In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Associationlink or any charity of your choicelink .
