Eugene E. “Red” Brown, 84, a former resident of Hemphill and Bridge City, died Thursday, March 15, at Pinehurst Nursing Center in Orange.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, in the chapel of Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Steven Leger, pastor of St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Bridge City.

Born in Tullis, Louisiana on April 14, 1927, Red was the son of Joe E. Brown and Eva Celeste (Kent) Brown. He retired from Levingston Shipbuilding Co. in Orange where he was an operator.

Red was a professional and recreational scuba diver. He loved to hunt and fish and had been a fishing guide at Toledo Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eva Brown; wife, Ruby Landry Brown; sister, Gloria Molley and brothers, Joe Brown and Bryce Brown.

Red is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Brown of Vidor and Dave and Darlene Brown of Bridge City. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Deanna Thresher, Michael Brown and wife, Stacey, Matthew Brown and wife, Melody, Brian Brown, Brandi Whittington and husband Duane and Krystal Ledet and husband, Eustac; 17 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
