A Nederland man was arrested Wednesday evening after police were dispatched to the Pilot Truck Stop, located in the 2200 block of Hwy. 62.

The man was reportedly intoxicated and driving a van with a flat tire. Officer Patrick McDonald arrived on the scene to find Brian Elliot Granger, 30, of Nederland, lying next to the van on the parking lot.

As Officer McDonald approached the man, he smelled a strong and distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath and person. As police were speaking with Granger, his speech was observed to be extremely slurred.

When Officer McDonald asked Granger if he had anything to drink, Granger replied, “oh yeah, at least a 12 pack”. At this point, Granger was asked to walk to the front of the patrol car. While walking, Granger had unsteady balance, and swayed from side to side as he walked.

When asked to place his hands on the bumper of the patrol car, he complied by laying his upper body on the hood of the car.

Granger was asked if he would be willing to take a field sobriety test, to which is agreed.

Due to Granger’s physical demeanor, and prior actions in the presence of police officers, he was believed to be intoxicated to the level of being a danger to himself or others. At this time, Granger was taken into custody and transported to the Orange County Jail, where he was released to jail personnel and booked.
